Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substance and Mixtures

The EC Regulation No 1272/2008   Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substance and Mixtures 2008 Regulations of the 16th December 2008.  (CLP Regulations)

This Regulation came into force on the 1st June 2009, and will be fully implemented on the 1st June 2015.  As an EU Regulation the UK Government are required to implement the legislation in full.

This regulation will replace the UK’s  CHIP4 Regulations 2009 when fully implemented.

The Government have no plans to provide any guidance on the CLP at UK level.

However, the Government are required to set up a helpdesk to offer advice.  The HSE has a Helpdesk for REACH and CLP as follows;

The CLP Regulations are part of the UN Globally Harmonised System for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The aim is for One Chemical, one label – worldwide. The requirements include new labels, new hazard statements for labels and new precautionary statements for labels.
